This is another Kang Ji Hwan series. I enjoyed watching him in Capital Scandal but due to some unexpected series of events in my life, I have to set it aside for awhile. By now, I think it is on it’s 10th episode already but as the wise folks used to say – better late than never.
I got this brief synopsis from wikipedia:
“Hong Gil Dong is the son of a minister. Gil Dong practiced Taoist magic at a young age. His family feared his powers so they planned to have him assassinated. But Gil Dong escaped and decided to become a bandit leader. Gil Dong robbed from the corrupt officials and gave the money to the poor citizens. This drama takes place during the Joseon period.”
This romantic comedy is set on the Chosun era so it is sort of historical epic but with a modern twist. Those that are not so fond of sageuk drama like Jewel in the Palace or the recent BYJ’s Legend can definitely dig this one. The language used here are very contemporary, for the korean speakers that is, and PD is continually infusing modern stuff in the scenarios.
My only fear is that I may not understand all the punchlines and jokes infused in this series because I am not that well versed in the Korean culture and history. Anyway, I am still excited and looking forward to see how the writer and the PD’s creativity in weaving the historical and the contemporary scenes together.
I am happy to know that they are receiving decent ratings as well.
