I am building a new home which is practically the same as this one although I am trying to make it better than this, hopefully. I will still continue writing for this one…hahaha…I know I have not written any lately…too many distractions!

However, my new home is at http://asiandramaaddict.com or you just simply click here.

It may be down sometimes because I am still trying to organize and fix things. The whole COFFEE PRINCE recaps are already there and I am on the process of trasnferring HANA KIMI. I am painstakingly transferring the posts manually for God knows why… it will take too many hours for me to tell you all about it anyway you are all invited to go over there…I hope I can fix it before the month ends…

See yah!

Hey guys, I am taking a detour here. I hope you don’t mind. I just want to share my recent addiction which is all about Edward and Bella, The Cullens, Jacob and the Wolf Pack. I am talking about Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels.

I got the Twilight infection. I am so into them that I was totally annoyed everytime there was any kind of distraction when I was reading the novels. I have never enjoyed reading this much for a long time. I did not want to put the book down.

Although, the storyline was not that original since I was a Buffy/Angel/Spike fan, it was still riveting and Stephenie Meyer is a great storyteller. She still pulled several punches to suprise the hell out of me. I was totally drawn to each character.

Her writing skill is wonderful. She made everything so simple. She never tried to be poetic or so deep that we all end up having our own analysis over what happened. This is the reason why it was a best seller. It also helped that the book has a larger print. Although it was kinda heavy but the story inside made it worth the weight.

Now, they made a movie out of it and I cannot wait for it to shown on the cinemas. I promised my sister who is a total addict as well that we will watch the movie, first day, first screening. I am just hoping that I would not be disappointed with how it will turn out in the big screen.

Edward will be played by the guy from Harry Potter whose name was Cedric. The guy who died on the wizard tournament. Bella will be played by the young girl from Panic Room, she was Jodie Foster’s daughter there.

I totally love the twists and turns and the Edward-Bella-Jacob relationship and friendship not to mention the love and bonding in the Cullen Family plus the loyalty from the Wolf Pack.

I can’t wait for November to come. 30 days and around 10 more hours as of this writing and I will be able to watch it all unfold on the widescreen. If you guys watch to catch a glimpse on what its all about, watch this video:

monstersvsaliens01.jpg

  • Monsters vs Aliens. An animated movie more like the in the style of Monsters Inc is in the works. The Legally Blonde star, Reese Witherspoon will be the movie’s main cast as the voice of the Susan Murphy and later on she becomes Ginormia, a 50-foot giant after being hit by a meteor. She is joined here by Hugh Laurie popularly known as Dr. House in the hit TV series with the same title and Kieffer Sutherland of course from the hit series 24.

  • Harry Potter. The last book will be splitted into two parts. The producers said it is all because of creative reasons. Since it is the last one, they do not want to sacrifice any element of the book. I, being a huge fan of the J.K. Rowling series is quite happy of this news. I want a great ending to a brilliant story.

  • The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The movie that Heath Ledger was not able to finish due to his untimely death will resume filming. Johnny Depp, Colin Farell and Jude Law will assumed the different characters that Ledger was supposed to play in the movie. The story involves a magical mirror that takes people into different dimensions, allowing the director to switch between actors, while retaining those scene that Heath were able to shoot. The whole Ledger family approves with the producers decision.
  • Patrick Swayze. The cancer stricken actor got so much support from his colleagues in the industry. He is battling pancreatic cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. He reach global stardom in his portrayal as a dancer in the classic movie, Dirty Dancing.

  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The much anticipated summer movie of the year is creating so much buzz and excitement when the producers released the first theatrical trailer.  It got more impact and buzz when it was released on world wide web. Fans were so happy to learn that they will soon watch the latest and probably the last of the series since Harrision Ford is not getting any younger anymore. Everyone thought that Sean Connery will be reprising his role as Indy’s father in the movie but for whatever reason he begged off. This is a collaboration of two of the greatest directors of the industry – George Lucas and Steven Spielberg that started way back in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Their popular theme song still ignites a different feeling to its viewers judging from the reactions of the moviegoers when the trailer was previewed. I, personally can’t wait for the movie to be shown. I am an Indy fan!

leo01.jpgmark01.jpg

  • Cocaine Cowboys. Leo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg will do a film about this 2006 documentary. It tells of a the largest cocaine trafficking in America. Mark will play the infamous druglord while Leo will be the pilot who will accompany him in getting his cocaine. This is not the first time both actors will work together. They were included in the cast of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed where he won the best director award in 2007.

The success of a romantic movie is the chemistry of the on-screen partners. No matter how beautiful the love story is but if you can’t feel any spark between them, the magic of love cannot transcend to the viewing public.

I am a sucker of these so called feel good movies, the one that makes their audience either cry over a love spurned then later on creatively overturn destiny and time to prove that love conquers all or get giddy with a 24/7 fluttering of the heart with the onslaught of the ‘to die for’ romantic gestures: a smooth dialogue, an intense look, a knowing smile…that all leads to a happy ending.

And as promised, here’s more of my pre-valentine thoughts and views…some of my favorite movie couple. Let the sighing begin…

10. Can once in a lifetime happen twice? Yes it can with Jonathan Trager and Sarah Thomas in the movie called Serendipity. It stars John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

They met while shopping for christmas gifts for their girlfriend/boyfriend. They both wanted the same gloves but its the last pair. They both felt the magic spark, a feeling they both can’t explain. Soulmates. One magical night. She wrote and gave him her phone number but the wind took it away. She thought that it’s better to let destiny decided for them. In a book stall in NY, she bought a book entitled Love in Time of Cholera, she wrote her full name and phone number on the first page and wrote his name and phone number on a dollar bill. Then gave both away to other people. If they both get them, it means they are meant to be.

9. Terry McKay and Mike Gambill of Love Affair. It’s a remake and of course nothing beats the original but I don’t know there is something in Anette Benning & Warren Beatty that I like.

Not everyone loved their performance but I fell in love with them.  You can maybe blame it to the lighting and the haunting music but definitely I can see the sincerity of their relationship. I beg to disagree with those that can’t see it because how can you not, when those two are lovers in real life and is still together up to this day. Just check on the gist of the story when you get to the number 1 spot.

8. I must have done something good…Captain Von Trapp and Maria’s duet in the gardens near the gazebo was quite breathtaking to me. Truly unforgettable roles played by Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews in Rogers and Hammerstein’s Sound of Music.

The captain needed a new governess for his seven children and sought the help of the convent since nobody can stand the playfulness of the children. The mother superior thought that Maria needs to go out and explore the possibility that she may not belong in the convent and sent her out to the Captain. She was able to capture the hearts of the children and the Captain as well. The problem is he’s engaged to a Baroness and she vowed to be a nun…There is real chemistry here.  You can’t help but fall in love with the dashing Captain and the mischevious nun-to-be, Maria. They make it sound having seven precocious children is fun and hiding and escaping through the mountains an amazing adventure.

7. The Way We Were. Hubbard Gardner and Katie Morosky played by Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand.

Need I say more…For the purpose of just talking about it I’ll say more but their names says it all. This one does not have a happy ending but it has the most classic and romantic ending. Two so different people met in college, befriended each other, parted ways, saw each other again after so many years had passed. Nothing changed except they are willing to make a go for a relationship. It did not work out, they only stayed together until the birth of their child then they separated. They met again. She’s married and he’s got a pretty girl with him and to see him realizes his lost but both accepted that it work out the way it should. Her line, “You’re girl is lovely, Hubbell” and the song “The Way We Were” played during this last scene made me cry silently mourning for a love lost. Ahhh…love does not really conquers all.

6.  “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”, one of the most memorable movie quote of all time uttered by Rhett Butler to his Scarlett O’Hara. Gone With The Wind is definitely one of the most romantic film ever made.

The dashing debonair Clark Gable and the beautiful Vivien Leigh are just perfect for their roles. It’s the Civil War. Scarlett wanted to marry Ashley but he wanted to marry her cousin. She pleaded him to choose her. Little did she know that Rhett is in the room listening to them. Her ego was shaken. This was followed by their own love story. She doesnt want to admit she loves him so he left her and that quote I wrote in the beginning is the classic line he spoken to her, when she asked him : “Rhett, where will I go when you go?”. It’s an open for anything ending. If you know how focused and determine Scarlett is, Rhett won’t be able to resist her. So, I guess for me, this is still a happy ending.

to be continued…

This was inspired by a book I read about a list of chick flicks that may help girls overcome challenges they face in their lives. I made a list of my own and hope you guys can get something from it. I love talking about movies, characters and what it can possibly offer to us. I limited myself to the effect on girls for the main reason that I am a girl and it is quite hard to second guess the men.

#1 Girl Interrupted (1999)

girl interupted01

Starring: Winona Ryder, Angelie Jolie, Brittany Murphy, Jared Leto, Clea DuVall.

Watch this if you are feeling : Depressed, Misunderstood, Weird or basically you are craving for psychological drama.

Based on writer Susanna Kaysen’s account of her 18-month stay at a mental hospital in the 1960s. She attempted suicide by taking a bottle of aspirin and a bottle of vodka together and her delusions landed her in Claymore which is a private mental hospital. It is an institution that houses many crazy women and there she met a group of troubled women. Daisy, the sexually abused; Georgina the pathological liar; Polly,  the fire victim and Lisa, the dangerous charismatic sociopath who can influence you to do more damage in your life.

girl interrupted02

Unforgettable Lines:

“Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60’s. Or maybe I was just a girl… interrupted. ”

“I know what it’s like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can’t. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside.”

Susanna Kaysen played by Winona Ryder

“You know, there’s too many buttons in the world. There’s too many buttons and they’re just- There’s way too many just begging to be pressed, they’re just begging to be pressed, you know? They’re just – they’re just begging to be pressed, and it makes me wonder, it really makes me fucking wonder, why doesn’t anyone ever press mine? Why am I so neglected? Why doesn’t anyone reach in and rip out the truth and tell me that I’m a fucking whore, or that my parents wish I were dead?”

– Lisa played by Angelina Jolie

What’s the Catch?

This may help you understand that life is not always what you want it to be. Changes are inevitable and that we need to embrace it  and learn to live with it to avoid the pitfalls Susanna made. She landed in that mental institution not because she was totally mentally ill, she was indulging herself too much with self pity. A girl who would rather interrupt her growth rather than accept reality.

A Bonus: Angelie Jolie won an Oscar, the Golden Globe and SAG for best supporting actress role.

#2 Mermaids (1990)

mermaids 1

Starring: Cher, Winona Ryder, Bob Hoskins, Christina Ricci

Watch this if you are feeling: Cynical, Misunderstood, Insecure or if you think that you got a weird parent.

A story about a hopelessly promiscous sexy mother, Rachel, who often leave town and changed home address whenever she’s broken hearted. After a failed relationship, she drags her two girls, a 16 yr old teenager, Charlotte who wants to be a nun to be just the very opposite of her mother and a younger kid, Kate, a bemedalled swimmer to another town for a new life. Moving is a common normal occurence in the family.

They are new in town which means new life, new school, new friends and probably new love. Charlotte as much as she hates moving, was quite happy because she’s very near to a convent. Her greatest dream is to be a nun. She dont want to be like her mother. She met a handsome guy and falls for him and made her question herself if she is turning out to be like her mom. Rachel on the other hand met a guy who makes her laugh and falls for her and is offering a commitment even if she tries to discourage him by showing her bad side.

mermaids 2

Unforgettable Lines:

Charlotte Flax: I want to stay!
Rachel Flax: And do what?
Charlotte Flax: Finish high school
Rachel Flax: Great start. What’s your major? Town tramp?
Charlotte Flax: No Mom, the town already has one.

Charlotte Flax: Sometimes I feel like you’re the child and I’m the grown up.

What’s the Catch?

It is nice to be reminded that there are mothers like that and you are not alone in this world. The situation may not be the same but if your parents are not what you believe they should be even if it is difficult, the choice is still in your hands to do what you believe is right. It is always a good thing to focus on what you can want rather than what you dont want. That way, you can put all your positive energy in achieving them. We all go through the insecurity stage, the teen stage wherein you experiment, question, rebel but at the end of the day, just make sure you learn something from it and always remember you always have a choice and that is what Charlotte did.

A Bonus: They all are perfect for their roles. I love Christina Ricci here. She was a precocious 9 yr old. If you want to get a feel of this movie try hunting for a music video of the OST of this movie: Shoop Shoop song: It’s In His Kiss. Cher sung it with Winona and Christina.

#3 The Truth About Cats and Dogs (1996)

Starring: Uma Thurman, Janeane Garofalo, Ben Chaplin

truth about cats n dogs02

Watch this if you are feeling: Insecure, Hopeless, Brokenhearted, Playful

A romantic love story about a radio show host, Abby who got a listener, Brian attracted to her soothing sexy voice and a playful personality. He naturally went to meet her in the flesh and so he visited her at the radio station. When he arrived there he unwittingly mistaken Noelle, Abby’s tall, long-legged, beautiful friend to be her. Due to some reasons, Abby was not able to correct him.

Abby and Brian continued to get closer through phone calls and when it was time to meet each other in person, it was Noelle who went with him. As the relationship progresses, Abby felt that Brian will never fall for her. She is quite the opposite of her blonde bombshell friend. She feels she is unattractive for the likes of Brian.

truth about cats n dogs01

Unforgettable Lines:

Abby: You burp and guys think its adorable. You puke and they line up to hold your hair back.
Noelle: What’s wrong, Abby?
Abby: Nothing that a rooftop and an AK-47 won’t take care of.

Noelle: Disappointment doesn’t kill
Abby : Right… rejection kills. Disappointment only maims.

Abby: If you were trapped in Biosphere 2 for three years, who would you bring: Time Magazine’s Woman of the Year or Playboy’s Playmate of the Year?

Brian: You know how someone’s appearance can change the longer you know them? How a really attractive person, if you don’t like them, can become more and more ugly; whereas someone you might not have even have noticed… that you wouldn’t look at more than once, if you love them, can become the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. All you want to do is be near them.

Noelle: Besides, he has this small personal habit that just drives me crazy.
Abby: What’s that?
Noelle: He loves *you*.

What’s the Catch?

It is funny as well as an ego booster especially for those who feels that they are just ordinary, simple girls. While it is true that it is the physical beauty that makes a man stare at you longer than the usual, but it’s the PRESENCE that will make him stay. Not everyone is as physically gifted as Noelle played by Uma Thurman but there will always be something in you (no matter how unattractive you feel you are) that will stand out. It is all in the ATTITUDE, gurl. Do not forget that it was Abby’s interesting personality played by Janeane Garofalo that got Brian’s attention at first.

A Bonus: Ben Chaplin is sooo smexy here plus it was well executed.
