I am building a new home which is practically the same as this one although I am trying to make it better than this, hopefully. I will still continue writing for this one…hahaha…I know I have not written any lately…too many distractions!

However, my new home is at http://asiandramaaddict.com or you just simply click here.

It may be down sometimes because I am still trying to organize and fix things. The whole COFFEE PRINCE recaps are already there and I am on the process of trasnferring HANA KIMI. I am painstakingly transferring the posts manually for God knows why… it will take too many hours for me to tell you all about it anyway you are all invited to go over there…I hope I can fix it before the month ends…

See yah!

I never thought I will ever fall under Bae Yong Joon’s  charm…

…and my God what a fall.

This is only the second kdrama series that I kept on squealing (silently…yeah hard to do) whenever I see the lead actor appear on screen. I always wonder in the past why this guy is so popular. I originally thought he was a bland and unattractive actor. Yeah, you are all permitted to shoot me, several times too. The pic above says it all…*sigh…*sigh…*sigh…

The only reason I got a DVD copy of his recent award winning TV series was because my mom is a fan of sageuk historical dramas and before giving it to her I usually check the DVD of its quality and when I watch the first few scenes of the first episode I got hooked by the storyline and then I got curious on BYJ’s transformation from a white- haired god to a warrior king.  It’s the first time my mom and I watch a TV series together although I had to do a marathon from episode 16 onwards. Yes, I finished the whole series at two o’clock this morning along with my sis who I was able to convince that it was a beautiful story by just telling her the gist of it while riding in a car going to a mall and with a cousin who just got back from a Japan trip and who only got snippets of the story during our meal together (poor cuz he reported for work after two hours of our marathon w/o any sleep at all, jet lag and all).

And because I fell in love with the whole thing, I am thinking of recapping the series. Yeah I know, I’m already recapping two other dramas as well and I know it will be difficult because the story is quite complicated with all the twists and turns, some of which I can’t understand very well. With all the mentioned obstacles, my love for the drama and Bae Yong Joon just won’t allow me not to do it.

So, I will try my best to make the most of it. I may not be able to recap the whole episode, scene by scene but I will summarize the highlights of each episode and just match it up with pics for easy comprehension and visualization.

When it was aired for the first time last year, I was tempted to watch it just because of all the hype that came with it but when I saw the different characters, the reincarnation thing, I decided not to. I thought I will have a hard time following with the story but after watching the first episode few days ago, I was hooked.

Anyway, I will try to explain all the characters and their reasons to be there before I start my recaps.

So, this may be a few months late, nevertheless, the old wise men were right: better late than never.

A surgery for a ruptured cervical disc was needed for Bae Yong Jung for his recent accident happened while filming his successful MBC drama series, “Taewangsasingi” but he has to postpone it.

Yonsama as he is lovingly called by his fans will continue shooting as to follow the production time table of airing its last episode on December 5.

This is the second injury that he got while shooting the said successful drama series. It was reported back in October that he pulled a ligament of his finger that rendered him incapable of holding a sword.

Uh-oh…I hope he doesn’t break anything anymore. Anyway, it is commendable of him to still continue to shoot despite the massive pain that his injury is causing him. I once, broke my wrist and my collar bone (dont ask why) and it is by far the most painful thing that I have ever experienced in my life. All I did was lie down the bed and do nothing to minimize any movement that will make it more painful.

It is good to know that his drama series is enjoying high ratings and maybe that is his driving force and of course with a little help from the magic pills-the much needed painkillers.

So BYJ as Damdeok, the 19th King of Gwanggaeto of the Goguryeo Kingdom must be feeling the irony of it all. He got the power to unite the Four Gods and yet he can’t even move without those pills.

I hope he finish filming soon so he can get the much needed surgery and hospital care.

This period drama  claims that it has…

…A historic staggering filming budget

…A “Making of” Book that sold millions of won

…A Stellar Cast

…The Largest Ever Production Site

…About 90 countries worldwide anticipating the release of this epic series

A hype this huge, wouldn’t you want to join the bandwagon of those who are waiting for it to be aired?

I researched and looked into some sites that are so into this and these are what I found…

  • Ha Ji Won, Kim Ha Neul and Kim Tae Hee were among the selection for the role Hyeonko which eventually went to newcomer Jung Jin Young.

  • The production cost was estimated to be around 50 billion won.

  • On September 10th, a special on this drama will air. Then the first three episodes will air consecutively on the 11th, 12th, and 13th. This drama will air at it’s regular scheduled time the following week every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:55 Korean time.

  • DBSK will sing the theme song “Chun Nyun Yun Ga” (A thousand years love song). The song was composed by Joe Hisaishi who made the songs for “Futureboy Conan” and “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Hayao Miyazaki.

  •  Rumored that it was involved with litigation in court. The ‘TWSSG’ was dragged into dispute of plagiarizing a comic ‘Nation of WInd’ last year and after the court awarded decision that it did not violate the copyright, an appeal trial is going on at present. Mr. Hong Soonjoo of ‘Study Group on lost ancient Korean history’ also recently submitted a bill of reason for appeal to Seoul Central High Court of Justice claming that the ‘TWSSG’ violated copyright of ‘History revealed in tablet of the Great King Kwang-gae-to’ and scenario ‘The Great King Kwang-gae-to, Lion of thousand gods’ written by him. Although court of first instance decided dismissal already in the last month, Mr. Hong has appealed objecting that.

  • Rumored that BYJ’s acting fee is 100 million won per episode

With that kind of background, I truly hope that it will be successful and entertaining. As I’ve mentioned in the past I am not a fan of BYJ. I haven’t watch Winter Sonata. I just saw a little bit of him in Hotelier because I didn’t finish that series but as logic reasons with us, how can one rate something or someone if you haven’t tried it yet or watched him yet.

We’ll see…I think I will be setting up a date with him soon.

Bae Yong Jun and this period drama series clearly got so much media hype and I am quite excited if it will be really as good as the they claimed it to be.

The more I read about it, the more I find it so interesting.  The costumes, the location and the money spent on this are enticement enough.

Although I am not particularly fond of the actors included in the cast. Not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I am not a fan. Let’s see if this series will make me a BYJ ‘drooler’.

This drama portrays the life of the 19th king of Goguryeo. Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo, establish Goguryeo with his Four Gods: Cheong-ryong (Blue Dragon), Baek-ho (White Tiger), Joo-jak (Phoenix), Hyeon-mu (symbolized as a turtle). The Japanese may know them as Seiryuu, Byakko, Suzaku, and Genbu. Jumong marries Soseono, who had a big part in the founding of Goguryeo. They have two sons, Onjo and Biryu. When the son of Jumong’s first wife came to Goguryeo in search of his father, and is named Crown Prince, Soseono takes her sons, Onjo and Biryu, South and establishs Baekje. This is how Baekje and Goguryeo were known as “brother countries”.

As time passed, the Four Gods secluded themselves from society and watched as Baekje and Goguryeo’s relationship worsened (worsened more mainly because Goguryeo’s king was killed in a battle between Baekje and Goguryeo). One day, Ju-ahn, “Hyeon-mu” of the Four Gods, sees two stars sour up into the sky. Since one came from the palace in Baekje, it predicted the birth of “Su”, later known as King Ah-shin. The other star came from Goguryeo, prophesizing the birth of Dam-deok, later known as Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang.Realizing that his new master has come to the world, Ju-ahn awaits in the vast Manchuria with a young girl, Sujini, to see which of the two will be his master. Sujini was picked up as an orphan by Ju-ahn and considers Ju-ahn as her father.

Therefore, the story is on the Four Gods looking for their master, Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang, who was an expert in tactics, the woman he loved (Sujini), who was also loved by the coldhearted King Ah-shin.
