Cosmetic Surgery…anyone?

A lot of people in the entertainment business in Korea are so obsessed in cosmetic surgery. The double eyelid thing is such a big deal there. If you read the papers, well…mostly the tabloid ones…are keeping an update of who had it done and if it was well done.

MBC is scheduled to air a drama series with cosmetic surgery as it’s main theme this January.

비포 & 애프터 성형외과 / Before and After: Plastic Surgery Clinic

It stars Lee Jin Wook (Air City, Smile Again) as Han Geon Soo, So Yi Hyun (Special Crime Investigation, Resurrection) as Yoon Ki Nam and Kim Sung Min (Fantasy Couple, Tears of Diamond) as Choi Yong Woo.

Geon Soo is an owner of a cosmetic surgery clinic that is on a brink of being taken over by the loan sharks. Another doctor, Yong Woo is helping him save the clinic. Ki Nam is the nurse that will play a huge part in completing the love triangle.

It will tackle the different reasons why men and women go under the knife just to obtain that perfect beauty that society dictates.

No surprises at MBC Drama Awards

As expected by many the Legend star, Bae Yong Jun took home the grand award – Daesang. Still sporting the long hair with the much needed crutches, he still look adorable in his black tuxedo and I’m sure his legion of fans can’t stop screaming infront of their television screens as he also took home the best couple and the popularity award.

Much to my dismay, as I was rooting for the Coffee Prince pair to bag it. Yonsama’s popularity is just enormous that even if his co-actor on his drama series is but fairly new to the viewing audience, it didnt matter at all. The other co-nominees didnt stand any chance at all if he’s in the same category. Japan’s former prime minister even told the press that BYJ is more known in Japan than him.

What made me very happy is that my favorite drama couple both took home acting awards for their effective performance in CP. Yoon Eun Hye got the Top Excellence Award and Gong Yoo got the Excellence Award. Do not make me explain how the koreans give away their awards. I am also as mystified as you all are. She looked so beautiful crying in her acceptance speech and he looked so handsome in his green ensemble grinning the whole night.

Breathtaking Batanes

A beautiful island, breathtaking landscape and scenery with quaint little villages. A serene place but with towering raging waves. A perfect place for people to meet, fall in love and be lost in the intricate confusing world of relationships.

Another filipino movie worth taking a look is Batanes.

It stars Iza Calzado, who played the role of a woman who followed his man to the island of Batanes, married him and tried living a peaceful life away from the hectic and stressful one she had in Manila. Then the unthinkable happened, she lost him to the raging sea. She could have went back to her life in Manila but she decided to stay in the island as it reminded her of her husband. During one stormy night, she found a dying Taiwanese fisherman played by F4’s Ken Chu near the shore. She nurses him back to health and  love will blossomed between the two despite the language and culture barrier plus the wariness of the people of Batanes in accepting him. There had been a long standing rift between foreign fishermen and the local fishermen. The taiwanese people had been caught many times illegally fishing in Batanes.

Can they make it work despite the obstacles thrown in their way?

Directors John David Hukom and Adolfo Alix Jr. have so much appreciation and admiration for their chosen actors. They said they didn’t encounter any problem with them. They are also equally amazed by Ken’s simplicity and professionalism even with his superstar status in Asia.

It was Director Alix who thought of the idea of making a movie in Batanes. He fell in love with the place and thought of making a love story for it. He heard from the locals of stories of Taiwanese and Vietnamese fishermen being stranded during typhoon.

Ken himself was enthralled with the place and is contemplating of buying a property there. This is not the first time a movie will be shot in this place. Carlito Siguion-Reyna’s critically acclaimed and box office hit Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit chose this island for its romantic backdrop.

The story might be simple but I am so curious on how the young filmakers will execute it on the screen plus just to see the enchanting place of Batanes on the wide screen is quite enough to woo my interest.
